Renaissance Hotel Amsterdam

- -

Hotel Renaissance AmsterdamLocated near the Central Station but in a quiet small street between Spuistraat and Singel, Renaissance Amsterdam Hotel has been for almost two decennia, an important institution in the life of the city. The hotel buildings are the combination of old 17c. Dutch Renaissance, with a characteristic cupola of the former church visible from distance and the modern architecture. This big (397 rooms and 5 suites) five star hotel has been previously called Sonesta and has been perceived as one of the best in Amsterdam, being an elegant venue to many important cultural events and conferences.
Sold in 1991 to a group of German investors, the hotel subsequently changed its name and lost much of its lavish atmosphere. However, during the last years an important effort is being made to regain previous up market position. An extensive renovation of the rooms and of the hotel’s façade took place, as often in Amsterdam - without stopping receiving guests. This has put a new burden on the Renaissance Amsterdam Hotel reputation, as many guests could hear construction workers starting their activities at 6 a.m., month after month. Nevertheless, the renovation will come to its conclusion and the hotel will remain a special venue in Amsterdam, because of its ideal location and the space it offers.
Renaissance Hotel AmsterdamToday Renaissance Amsterdam Hotel belongs to the Marriot Hotels chain. It is full air-conditioned; its non smoking rooms are comfortable and well equipped, its service professional and correct, always eager to help (although you may expect surcharge for almost everything you ask for). The hotel has a restaurant, a bar accessible from the street, a vast, elegant lounge serving drinks and meals, and with its 11 conference rooms it remains an ideal place for meetings and conferences.
The Renaissance Amsterdam Hotel has a fitness room and several smaller facilities as gift shop and a hairdresser. The hotel has no parking. Car Park called P1 Parking Amsterdam Centre in front of the Central Station at 5 minutes walk from the hotel is the best possibility.
The hotel has not been adapted to receive handicapped people.
