A family townhouse adapted for a hotel in 1980, located in the short side street named after Frans van Mieris – 17th Dutch genre painter. Beautiful big trees, end of 19th century houses, relaxed atmosphere of South Amsterdam and a proximity of good restaurants, excellent bakery, interesting bookshops, Concertgebouw philharmonics as well as always busy Museumplein characterize amtosphere around the Washington Hotel.You enter through a small old fashioned lobby. The steep staircase leads to your room. The rooms are light (except for the room in the basement), rather small, with high ceilings. They are almost filled with outdated spring beds and some smaller pieces of furniture. In a bigger room you get a proper, old style wardrobe to put your things in (convenience not often seen in Amsterdam budget hotels). Rooms are clean and sheets smell fresh, but it all had clearly served for the decennia. It feels like a visit to your grandparents, who opened their home for a big family reunion.
Most of Hotel Washington 22 rooms have bathrooms, except for a few “basic” rooms with a bathroom in the corridor. Simple, tasty breakfast is served in the hotel’s breakfast room.No lift. Surcharge to your bill if you pay with the credit card. WiFi Internet at a small daily fee. Relatively easy parking possibilities in the hotel area (metered parking).
After years of good service the whole place asks for renovation, nonetheless the Hotel Washington remains clean, inexpensive, nicely sited and it has undoubtedly retained some of its old charm.
